  • Mexican Swiss Army Shelf

I always thought there was just one type of shelf. The kind you set stuff on. The Mexican Army Shelf proves that theory wrong.

Ludens’ Mexican Army Shelf models itself after a Swiss Army Knife. It has a number of shelves integrated into the unit.  There’s a shelf for clothing, one for coins, one with a mirror, one for money, one for your car keys and the list goes on. Find the shelf you want to use and just pull it out.

Just think of all the electronics you can store on those shelves!

  • 100MPG Hummer?

Posted by admin on April 28th, 2009 No comments

    hummer_100mpg

Ya we’re having issues believing this one to. Apparently Raser Technologies has unveiled a prototype H3 that will get up to 100 miles to the gallon. *Gasp*

The prototype uses a combination of gas and battery power. The lithium ion battery packs will give enough power to let the Hummer drive about 40 Miles. After that you have to rely on good ol’ fossil fuels.

The Hummer is only in demo phase at this point, but production could begin as early as 2011. Pricing has not been released.

PC users rejoice! Soon you will have your very own Time Machine. Seagate has announced it will release a device very similar to Apple’s Time machine for PCs this May.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Time Machine, the device lets you backup documents, applications and other files, just in case your computer was to ever crash. Not that that ever happens. The drive will continuously backup your files so you’ll never have to lift a finger. Gotta love that!

Seagate’s drive will work with Windows Vista, and XP. Two different models will be available, 250GB and 500GB which will retail for $129.99 and $199.99, respectively.

  • Best Buy to carry vinyl records

Posted by admin on April 27th, 2009 No comments

vinyl_recordDon’t adjust your monitor, you read right. Best Buy is considering carrying vinyl records in its 1020 U.S. stores.

Why? Apparently vinyl is hip! Vinyl sales grew 15 percent year-over-year in 2007 and 89 percent in 2008.  Not bad when you consider CD sales have fallen by about 20% in the past few years.

The electronics giant is looking to delegate approximately 8 square feet to vinyl in the coming months. That’s room for about 200 albums. If the pilot project does well, the company may make room for even more.

You planning on trading in your CDs for vinyl?

  • Track the spread of Swine Flu online in real time

Posted by admin on April 27th, 2009 No comments

swine_flu_edited-1Good news hypochondriacs! You can now track the spread of Swine Flu online in real time! An American biomedical researcher has created a map using Google Maps to track reported cases of H1N1 Swine Flu as they get confirmed by the World Health Organization.

The map is pretty easy to decipher. The pink markers are suspect, the purple markers are confirmed. Deaths from H1N1 lack a dot in the marker, and yellow dots mean the suspected case turned out to be negative. Click the link at the bottom of the story if you want to see how many cases are in your area.

flock_screenshotPuzzle games are a dime a dozen these days, so it’s nice to see a game come out that breathes fresh air into the stale genre.  Capcom has opened the gates and released the cute little puzzler Flock for XBLA, PSN and PC. The goal is simple, round up the animals and call it a day. Sound simple? Think again! This cute little puzzler is a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

  • GameFly files official complaint with USPS

Posted by admin on April 26th, 2009 No comments

gameflyRenting a video game and having it delivered right to your door sounds like an ideal concept. Unless of course the games arrive damaged or don’t show up at all. And that’s the beef online video game rental giant GameFly has with the United States Postal Service.

GameFly has now filed an official complaint with the USPS regarding the amount of damaged games. The company says 1% of all games sent through the mail end up becoming damaged. Not a bad number right? Well when you ship out hundreds of thousands of copies, it adds up! You also have to consider theft. So far 19 USPS employees have been charged with theft for swiping GameFly discs before they reach their destination.

GameFly has made its own attempts to reduce the breakage rate by testing out new cardboard protectors and larger mailers. It hasn’t seemed to help. Maybe they should stop sending out games in envelopes marker with the company’s logo.
