monaca_usb1 Apparently when it’s modelled after a cookie. Hacoa Wood Products Design Co. has released a wooden USB key carved from a sleek, silky wood called Monaca. The design itself is inspired from a Japanese cookie of the same name.

Apparently Japan has quite a history when it comes to wood craftsmanship. Who knew! Maybe that’s why the company is charging $102 for a meek little 1GB thumb drive. At least it’s pretty.

  • Microsoft confirms release date of Windows 7 RC

Posted by admin on April 25th, 2009 View Comments

windows_7Microsoft has made official what many already knew. Windows 7 Release Candidate will be made available to the public on May 5th.

Last weekend, a posting on Microsoft’s partner program site made mention of the release date, yet the folks in Redmond weren’t willing to comment. Now company spokesperson Brandon LeBlanc has made it clear, this is indeed the date the public can get their hands on the RC.

Few details are being released. Microsoft isn’t saying what time the file will be made available, or how many downloads they will allow. In January. Microsoft said only 2.5 million would be allowed to download the Windows 7 beta. The servers crashed and Microsoft was forced to drop the limit and extended the deadline to download the OS.

If you’re planning on updating to Windows 7 RC, you’ll want to start fresh. Microsoft is saying it’s not a good idea to upgrade from one pre-release build to another. Instead it’s asking users to revert to Vista for the time being.

Are you looking forward to the Windows 7 RC?

And you thought tattoos were cool! Students at the Royal College of Art have developed a special body paint that conducts electricity, yet it won’t give you a shock!

“Bare” is non-toxic and painted directly onto your skin with a brush. The students say it may also be possible to create stamps that can be applied directly to your body in the future. The paint is water soluble so it can be washed off, but that does raise the question as to how long it lasts.

Imagine the possibilities! Performance art? Medical devices? Ear buds with a cable you can paint directly onto your body? How would you use conductive ink?

    gp2x-wiz

The folks at Gamepark have just sent us over the company’s newest handheld linux gaming system the GP2X Wiz. The glossy black and red unit arrived in a plain brown cardboard box with a single USB cable…that’s it. We’re assuming the retail version will come in fancier packaging.

Thankfully the unit was shipped with a bit of juice so we were able to turn it on. The OLED touchscreen was nice and bright, and quite responsive to touch. A stylus can also be used if you don’t want to smudge the glossy screen with your fingers.
