The Beatles: Rock Band isn’t even out yet, but MTV Games is already working in high gear on yet another project. MTV Games head Scott Guthrie told MVC it’s going to be a step in a new direction. Will it be another band collaboration? Quite possibly, but he assures it will be unlike anything we’ve played until now.

“We aren’t standing still,” Guthrie notes. “We will keep moving into new areas and look at new technologies that our platform holder partners are also developing, such as Project Natal from Microsoft. We’re working with them to pull some things together.”

  • Introducing…the PS3 Slim!

Posted by Mike Yawney on August 18th, 2009 View Comments

sony_ps3What’s slim, light, and matte all over? Why it’s the PS3 Slim! Sony has finally unveiled their poorly kept secret. Heck even K-Mart announced it before Sony!

So what makes this new console different despite being thinner and ligher? The touch sensors are gone, replaced with physical click buttons (power, eject). The piano black glossy finish is also gone. The new console is matte to appeal to a wider casual gaming audience. Sony says it had to completely redesign the interior architecture of the new PS3 system “from the main semiconductors and power supply unit to the cooling mechanism.” The price has also been reduced to $299.

Expect the Playstation 3 Slim to hit stores on September 1st.

Who would have thought K-Mart would be the one to drop the bombshell that the PS3 Slim exists!

The Big K has not only hinted about a price cut to the existing PS3, it’s online flyer is also taking pre-orders for the yet to be “officially” announced PS3 Slim. What?! What’s even more intriguing is the price. K-Mart is listing it at only $299 USD.

Is the marketing department on glue? Could this be legit?

  • Xbox 360 Played 5 Times as Often as Wii?

Posted by Mike Yawney on August 18th, 2009 View Comments

xbox360Breaking news! Okay, not sure this will really come as a surprise to many gamers out there. Game Informer magazine has just released some findings from a recent reader survey showing gamers tend to play the Xbox 360 five times as often as the Nintendo Wii. 40 percent of Xbox gamers button mashed for three to five hours a day, while most Wii owners played for less than an hour.

Now for the bad news…the Xbox 360 has a much higher failure rate than other consoles. In fact it was five times higher than the PS3′s 10.6 percent, with the Wii coming in at 6.8 percent. A whopping 54 percent of readers claim their Xbox has “Red Ringed”. Ouch!

Now keep in mind this was a survey from 5000 readers. Nothing scientific here folks, just reader responses so take it for what it’s worth.
