• Sony Says PS3 Continues to Gain Momentum

Posted by Mike Yawney on November 26th, 2009 View Comments

ps3-slimThe recent release of the PS3 Slim has placed Sony in a good position for the holiday season. This according to Sony execs who say third party interest has never been higher, even as other consoles loose steam.

“Just anecdotally, it’s been enormously positive,” Sony Computer Entertainment president and CEO Andrew House says regarding feedback received since the release of the PS3 Slim. “People have been telling us we’ve reached the price point they were hoping for, and as a result we’ve got the wind in our sales – that the market really is there for the PS3 to command.”

House says besides the slash in price, Nintendo’s lack of first party support will only help Sony regain its foothold this Christmas.

  • Review: Rogers Rocket Hub

Posted by Mike Yawney on November 25th, 2009 View Comments

rogersWe take high speed Internet for granted. Admit it. If you live in any urban area you’re used to the fact that you can download movies and music at the speed of light. We’re talking legal files, of course. We’re used to connecting our laptops up to our wireless home networks and surfing the web at speeds that weren’t even possible five years ago.

But if you live in a rural area, you may not be so lucky. Outside of large urban centres, high speed Internet is still a luxury. Availability is usually through satellite which can be expensive. Now Canada’s largest wireless provider claims to have a solution.

Rogers Rocket Hub is a small device with a big claim: the ability to bring high speed Internet to even the most remote locations. As long as you have access to Rogers HSPA network, you can access the web. So how well does it work? We put it to the test to see if it delivers on its promise.

On Monday, the President reminded the robot world that he’s paying close attention. During his launch of the “Educate to Innovate” campaign to improve American science, technology, engineering, and math education, Obama alluded to the Presidential responsibility of protecting the nation from evil robots:

Now, the students from Oakton High School are going to be demonstrating the Cougar Cannon designed to scoop up and toss moon rocks. I am eager to see what they do, for two reasons. As presidents (sic), I believe that robotics can inspire young people to pursue science and engineering. And I also want to keep an eye on those robots in case they try anything.

  • Xbox Hating Girlfriend

Posted by Mike Yawney on November 25th, 2009 View Comments

Oooooh. Just watching this video makes us cringe. Can a girlfriend who is “sick of being bored” really be this sadistic and destroy her boyfriend’s Xbox 360 because he spends more time with it than her? It’s quite possible. In fact it wouldn’t surprise us if this has happened dozens of times in the past, just not caught on tape.

But in all honesty, if you’re going to destroy an Xbox 360 with a golf club and post it online, at least put some effort into it. Those are some whimpy strikes.

    blobo
A new gaming controller/console on the market is making a lot of gamers sit back and say “What?!” An upstart company out of Finland has created what could very well be the first “squeezable” controller.

Blobo looks like a rubber ball, yet it’s a tiny gaming system which connects to your PC or mobile phone. Inside the ball, you’ll find blue plenty of sensors which measure air pressure and acceleration. While there is probably multiple uses for the system, the video we’ve posted after the break gives you an idea on what it looks like in action.

    hulu_rogers
Whenever a popular movie or television clip is posted from Hulu, inevitably Canadians and other non-Americans complain that the clip cannot be seen outside of the US. But soon, Canadians may get a Hulu of their own courtesy of Rogers.

Rogers, a communications group with operations in wireless, television, and cable, may be bringing a Hulu type service to Canada. Users would have to subscribe to Rogers’ cable plans but it would allow them stream shows online. Currently, many Canadians view shows online on broadcasts network’s websites or download them as torrents.
