• Use The TV To Read Those Tiny Words

Posted by Natalie Sit on January 31st, 2010 No comments

Too vain for reading glasses? Or perhaps magnifying glasses are too low tech? How about a gadget that can enlarge the page you’re reading and beam it to your TV?

The Wireless Page To TV Magnifier is a mouse-like object that wirelessly sends the signal to a base station that is connected to your TV.

The magnifier enlarges  a 2 1/4″ x 1 1/2″ field of view. Magnification ranges from 10X on a 14″ TV to 28X on a 32″ TV. From the product photo it appears it can run on batteries as well as the AC adapter that’s included.

This high tech magnifying glass is available now and costs $149.99 USD.

Posted by Mike Yawney on January 31st, 2010 No comments

Virgin Mobile Canada must have felt left out, so now it’s bragging about what everyone else has been bragging about since last year. Finally the company is acknowledging it is part of one of Canada’s largest HSPA+ networks.

No Virgin doesn’t own the network, instead the company piggybacks on Bell’s network. Still, that means Virgin can boast the same download speeds of up to 21.6 megabits per second and upload speeds up to 5.76.

When Steve Jobs finally unveiled the iPad, it didn’t immediately send gadget lovers’ hearts aflame. Of course, nothing could match the hype that had surrounded the device for close to 10 years. But with the technical specs out there and details about mobile carriers’ plans for the data, we are now able to answer an important question:  will you buy it?

  • Steve Jobs: “Apple does not support Flash because it is so Buggy”

Posted by Mike Yawney on January 31st, 2010 No comments

Were you just as surprised as us to hear Flash still isn’t being supported on the iPhone or even the new iPad during Apple’s recent press event? Steve Jobs apparently took time to address that issue along with others at a recent town hall on the Cupertino campus.

Jobs took the time to tell his employees at One Infinite Loop that Adobe was lazy and Flash is buggy. Of course that was before he went on to tell the roaring crowd soon no one will be using Flash, they will be using HTML 5. Take a look at what he had to say:

It’s hard to see Sony’s 11″ OLED TV and not be amazed by how thin it is and the brilliant picture quality (there are black levels like you’ve never seen before). It’s been two years since the company unveiled the XEL-1, yet we still haven’t seen many sets that are that much larger. Until now.

  • Need To Charge 80 USB-enabled Gadgets?

Posted by DM Le Bray on January 29th, 2010 No comments

Clearly, the girl in the photo is also wondering what you would do with an 80 port USB hub.

At first glimpse, it seems like maybe I could chain all my 1 GB USB keys I routinely receive at trade shows. I could create a 20 GB drive for temporary backup or an external hard drive for my netbook. Alas, that is not the case.

    Concept design for Zune phone

A recent driver update to Microsoft’s Zune MP3 player includes code that references the oft-mused about phone version. Files called %Phone.DeviceDesC% indicate there’s more to the device than is currently in the hardware and on the market.

This comes on the heels of speculation from one industry analyst that Microsoft will likely unveil the Zune phone sometime in the next two months. While details on the phone are nonexistent, the expectation is that the phone will be Zune’s attempt to gain the market share it has failed to generate for Microsoft in the past years.

First he took to the the skies, then the heavens, and now Sir Richard Branson is heading underwater. He has just purchased an underwater plane he’s calling the Necker Nymph.

The £415,000 prototype has fighter jet technology and is piloted with a joystick. Currently it can dive up to depths of 130 feet. Okay that’s not very deep, but one day Branson hopes to one day explore depths of 35,000ft – which is far more than the height of Mount Everest.

  • Nintendo May Not Include 3D in Upcoming Consoles

Posted by Mike Yawney on January 29th, 2010 No comments

Nintendo didn’t believe people would be interested in high definition gaming,  so is there really any surprise the Big N has no faith in 3D gaming either? Nintendo’s President Satoru Iwata told Japanese media while Nintendo is working on new devices, he isn’t sold on 3D gaming.

“I question whether those features would be enough to get people to buy new machines,”  says Iwata. “I have doubts whether people will be wearing glasses to play games at home. How is that going to look to other people?”
