Two days before Apple is set to reveal its secret device, the company is making an announcement of a different sort, record sales and record profits. Q1 financials show record growth for the company. Apple says iPhone sales have doubled in the past quarter compared to last year, and Mac sales are up 33 percent.

“If you annualize our quarterly revenue, it’s surprising that Apple is now a $50+ billion company,” said Apple CEO Steve Jobs in a statement. “The new products we are planning to release this year are very strong, starting this week with a major new product that we’re really excited about.”

Montreal night spot La Vitrine Culturelle is getting world wide attention these days. Not because of the artists or performers the venue draws, rather for the club’s exterior.

  • Man Who Stole Car Arrested While Playing GTA III

Posted by Natalie Sit on January 24th, 2010 View Comments
    Ah, irony.

    Ah, irony.

Proving why Fark.com has a “Florida” tag, a 30-year-old man was arrested in his home while playing Grand Theft Auto III… arrested for stealing a car. Michael Ekes was charged with grand theft auto, along with other crimes such as possession of burglary tools with intent to use, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The cops started looking for Ekes when someone reported their 1998 green Dodge Durango had been stolen outside of a Wal Mart. It was found outside of Ekes’ home with the steering column broken and the ignition switch missing.

For some reason, the authorities asked Ekes for a review of the game to which he replied: “It’s a blast.”

I’m looking forward to seeing that effusive praise on the cover Rockstar’s next GTA release.

  • NASA Working on Personal Flying Suit

Posted by Mike Yawney on January 24th, 2010 View Comments

NASA has begun drawing up conceptual designs for a personal flying suit code named The Puffin. The “suit” is designed to be 12 feet in length, with a total wingspan of 14 and a half feet with a weight of 300 pounds (without a pilot).

Make no mistake, this is no jet pack. It is completely self-contained as the pilot would actually step into the suit. It’s also equipped with helicopter-style blades, allowing for high-altitude flying (unlike a jet pack).

  • Rogers Rolls Out Fix for HTC Dream and Magic

Posted by Mike Yawney on January 24th, 2010 View Comments

Last week we told you Rogers pulled all HTC Dream and Magic phones from store shelves after a potentially dangerous software glitch. Today Rogers has announced a fix is available and the phones are back up for sale.

The problem arose when Dream and Magic users enabled GPS on their phones. If the feature was turned on, the user would not be able to call 911. Rogers has rolled out a software patch with HTC, and to make sure people apply it the company is cutting off your Internet connection until you comply.

Here is the statement from Rogers:

  • Ask The Crew: Which Game Are You Looking Forward To In 2010?

Posted by DM Le Bray on January 24th, 2010 View Comments

    No, not those 2010 games.

Ah, the new year. It brings the promise of a new beginning, assisted by resolutions and promises. The new year also brings a whole new roster of video games. Some of you may be looking at the pile of games you received during the holidays, thinking you’ll never conquer them. Like rock climbing, to keep going you have to look up, not down. So don’t feel guilty that you haven’t finished Assassin’s Creed II or Dragon Age. The slow summer release season will come soon enough and you’ll finish your Italian or Ferelden adventures then.

Here’s what the Review Crew is looking forward to in 2010. What are you hoping to play this year?

  • Sad Reality On What Makes A Great Dating Profile Pic

Posted by DM Le Bray on January 23rd, 2010 View Comments

Abs, boobs, pouts and smiles… there are just so many options when choosing the successful online dating profile picture. Whether in the bar or on the ‘Net, if you’re trying to pick up, you have to pay attention to that superficial visual first impression. But is there any sure-fire way to attract the most interest?

Some fascinating data mining from OkCupid, an online dating site, is making it that much easier to make the perfect profile pic. Sadly, in only reinforces that sex really does sell and that the stupid “MySpace Shot” (taken by women holding the camera above the head) is just to damn effective to ever go away.

So if you’re looking to snag some love online, here are some helpful hints from the research:

  • PS3 Finally Hacked?

Posted by Mike Yawney on January 23rd, 2010 View Comments

For three years Sony’s Playstation 3 has remained uncompromised. Nintendo’s Wii fell victim to hackers as did Microsoft’s Xbox 360 almost right out of the gate, but Sony’s machine remained strong. That changed last night. The web is now buzzing with reports the PS3 has finally been hacked.

George Hotz, a well known iPhone hacker who goes by the name of geohot, claims he can get full read/write access to the entire system memory and complete control over the processor — all without a mod chip. You read right, without a modchip. Furthermore, Hotz says the issue “isn’t really patchable, but [Sony] can make implementations much harder.”

    Here’s a look at hotz’s post:
