• Work The Mos Eisley Cantina Like You Always Wanted

Posted by DM Le Bray on March 26th, 2010 View Comments

While working the Star Wars Cantina may not entice me to put down my lightsaber, it’s certainly cool to have an iPhone game that puts you in the thick of the most wretched hive of scum and villainy. Developers THQ have just leaked that they are close to releasing a Diner Dash-style game set in everyone’s favourite Star Wars bar.

The draft description for the app is:

“Your task is to see that the right beverage finds its way to the right customer. And don’t keep them waiting, some of the customers are real troublemakers! Working towards your daily quota, accuracy and speed are essential. As a reward for a job well done, outfit your cantina with decorations and attractions to appeal to even the most difficult customers.”

Posted by Mike Yawney on March 26th, 2010 View Comments

Everyone knows GameStop makes money hand over fist by selling our used games. You may not like getting ripped off by selling your used titles, but it hasn’t stopped thousands from doing it. Now a gamer is trying to turn the table and sue the company.

James Collins, the plaintiff in this case is suing GameStop for “fraudulently, unfairly, unlawfully and deceptively [misleading] consumers at the time of their purchase to believe that the game comes with free downloadable content, when it fact, it does not.”

What it comes down to is the fact that second hand buyers don’t have access to downloadable content that is often advertised on the game packages.

  • Cows, Like Octopuses, Enjoy HDTV

Posted by Natalie Sit on March 25th, 2010 View Comments

First octopuses, now cows are getting the HDTVs. I wish it had been this easy to convince my husband that we needed to buy an HDTV.

A farmer in Russia heard from a friend of a friend of a friend that cows produce way more milk when they see images of lush green fields. I guess Russian winters are not conducive to seeing year-round greenery.

So the farmer bought a bunch of 40″ Samsung LED TVs and mounts them in the barn. The TVs will play a non-stop loop of Swiss Alpine fields, known for the greeness, lushness, and fieldness.

The guy is also going to see if his investment paid off and that this will help cows produce more milk. One herd of cows will get to watch the green fields all day while the other herd gets nothing. I guess they’ll content themselves with dreaming of green fields.

  • Make Your Wii HD

Posted by Mike Yawney on March 25th, 2010 View Comments

One of the biggest downfalls of the Wii, besides the fact that most games are shovelware these days, is the fact that it can’t do high definition graphics. Or can it? VDIGI claims its new VD-W3 upscaler can upgrade the graphics on the Wii to full HD or 1080p.

The device doesn’t physically change anything on the Wii itself, rather it upscales the graphics for display on your HDTV. If playing Wii Fit in HD is important to you, you can snag the VD-W3 for about $75.

  • VHS Sales On The Rise In The UK

Posted by Mike Yawney on March 24th, 2010 View Comments

When is the last time you blew the dust off an old VHS movie? Do you even know where your VCR is? Well if you live in the UK you not only know where it is, you probably still use it quite frequently.

In The UK the VHS tape still has a strong presence! In fact VHS sales more than doubled, from 44,377 in 2008 to 95,201 last year. Yes, even the BBC appears baffled by this one as there appears to be no reasonable explanation for this.

  • Microsoft Confirms Standalone 250GB Hard Drives

Posted by Mike Yawney on March 23rd, 2010 View Comments

Microsoft said it would never happen. It denied the rumours over and over again. Now the company not only admits the 250GB standalone hard drive not only exists, it’s available for sale… right now!

The drive is selling for $159.99 CDN or $129 USD, which is a surprising price difference since the dollars are pretty much at par.

While Microsoft made the official announcement this afternoon, the thunder had already been stolen by gamers who saw an ad for the latest drive on the Xbox Live dashboard this morning. Funny how these things sometimes come to light.
