• Financially-Stricken Palm Finds a Buyer in HP

    It looks like Palm is clearing the financial backwoods. Computer maker Hewlitt-Packard is buying the smartphone maker. The deal is worth $1.2 billion.

    What do the companies get? Obviously, Palm gets some breathing room after its Palm Pre failed to break out. HP, known more for computers and printers, now has a foothold in the rapidly expanding and profitable smartphone market. HP does have a line of mobile phones, but this is probably the first time you’ve heard of them.

    Even if you’re not looking forward to Halo: Reach, the next first person shooter in the Halo series, you will appreciate the high-end movie-quality ad campaign just launched today. Above is the full 2.5 minute version that launched on XBox Live.

    The film/ad gives us an introduction to Carter 259 who is a key character in Reach (a prequel to the original three Halo games). We also get a look at the clearly painful bio-augmentation process that soldiers must go through to become the Spartan super-soldier.

    C’mom already! That’s what many gamers are saying after being teased for years with screen shots and info on Gran Turismo 5. We’ve played GT5 Prologue, even a GT5 time trial demo but still no word from PolyPhony on when the actual game will hit store shelves. Now we may now, thanks to Gamestop.

    The retailer has now posted a street date for Gran Turismo 5 on its website. The magical date? November 1st 2010. Yes, still 7 months away!

  • Paper Company Says You Should Print Your Emails

    In an ironic twist, a paper company wants young people to print more stuff out.

    John Williams, President and CEO of Domtar, a North American paper company, calls the “think before you print” messages “bull”.

    “There is an appropriate use for paper. You should feel comfortable to use it appropriately and you shouldn’t be feeling there is some environmental negative when you use it,” said Williams at a news conference Monday.

    We’ve all seen the pictures of Earth from the International Space Station. The breathtaking images pop up from time to time online and the Discovery channel. But have you ever wondered what earth looks like from another planet? Maybe Mars?

    The photo was taken from by the Mars Exploration Rover Spirit one hour before sunrise on March 8, 2004. In all honesty it doesn’t look like much, just a tiny spec in the sky, but it’s still kinda cool knowing it’s our little spec!

  • US Supreme Court To Determine If Minors Can Buy Violent Games

    Uh oh, the Terminator doesn’t want you younglings to buy violent video games.

    By the time the leaves are falling off the trees, the US Supreme Court will have determined if California can ban retailers from selling violent video games to youths. Previously, the short-lived law was overturned by California state court because the law violated minors’ First and Fourteenth constitutional rights. For the non-Americans, that’s the right to freedom of speech and right of due process.

    Stores that violated the law would have been fined $1,000 per violation.

  • Gizmodo Editor Served With Search Warrant Over iPhone 4G

    The drama over the stolen ‘leaked’ iPhone 4G continues to heat up. Gizmodo editor Jason Chen has posted on the site that his home has been searched by police and a number of things have been confiscated to be used as evidence.

    Chen claims he went out for dinner with his wife Sunday, only to return to find his garage door half open. When he attempted to open it he was greeted by police officers who showed him a search warrant. Among the items taken by police were four computers and two servers.
