• Review: Red Dead Redemption

A tumbleweed blows across the dusty path. A coyote barks in the distance. Your leather duster is blown by a hot wind as you sit atop your horse. The land stretches on before you for miles and above it is a ceiling of amazing colour–a desert sunset like an animated oil on canvas. The stillness is beautiful but things need doing. A spur to your steed and you’re off. Blood–yours and theirs–will be spilled under the stars and half-moon tonight.

Welcome to Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption. It’s good, very good. But let me tell you more…

  • Could It Be? Online Multiplayer Mass Effect?

Posted by Natalie Sit on May 31st, 2010 No comments

I think all us gamers, if we could, would take a time machine to the future where Mass Effect 3 is released and we all have a day off to play the hell out of it. But for now we’ll have to take the slow path to that glorious day. And we also have endure such rumours as this. Mass Effect 3 may have online multiplayer. That’s right, you could play with other Shepards.

A position in BioWare Montreal has popped up asking for a Multiplayer Programmer.

  • Woman Sues Google After Getting Hit By Car

Posted by Mike Yawney on May 31st, 2010 3 comments

A Utah women is suing Google after the walking directions it supplied on Google Maps led her onto a traffic filled highway.

Lauren Rosenberg of Park City apparently used the service to find walking directions to get from one part of town to another. It led her onto a busy highway where she was hit by a vehicle. She now wants Google to cough up $100,000 as a result of the mishap.

Turns out Rosenberg may not have a leg to stand on. When you launch Google street directions you have a warning pop up on your screen warning you “Walking directions are in beta. Use caution – This route may be missing sidewalks or pedestrian paths.”

  • It’s Quit Facebook Day

Posted by Mike Yawney on May 31st, 2010 No comments

A movement is starting north of the border, encouraging all to log off of Facebook for good. May 31st has officially become Quit Facebook Day.

The idea was the brainchild of Canadians Joseph Dee and Matthew Milan. The Toronto duo launched www.quitfacebookday.com several weeks ago to announce their plans to leave the site. The duo is concerned with how Facebook manages the personal data of its more than 400 million users, including 15 million in Canada.

  • Drop And Give Me 50 Virtual Pushups, Sailor!

Posted by Natalie Sit on May 30th, 2010 No comments

If the Microsoft Project Natal or PlayStation Move prove to be a failure with casual gamers, there could be a new market for them: the military. Incoming US Navy recruits are too soft in the gut and require a bit of Wii Fit or Dance Dance Revolution to help get them into shape.

US Navy Surgeon General Vice Admiral Adam Robinson believes that video games, used in combination with real physical activity, could help new sailors into fighting shape.

“I have no doubt that today’s youth and the people that we’re talking about are capable of becoming physically fit,” said Robinson. “But I think that there has been a definite difference in the amount of time that people have devoted to physical activity, and I think that is a manifestation of physical education in the school systems in America.”

  • Firefox Add-on Erases Justin Bieber From the Web and Our Hearts

Posted by Mike Yawney on May 30th, 2010 8 comments

If you’re on Twitter you are more than aware who Justin Bieber is. You probably didn’t want to know, and you probably don’t care about the 16 year-old Canadian pop singer, but you are forced to see tweets about him day after day after day. Justin Bieber fans are insane, which is why he’s always trending in the top 10. Finally, someone is fighting back.

A Justin Bieber free world is possible with a little Firefox add-on known as Shaved Bieber. Once it is installed it will completely wipe out all mentions of the words Justin Bieber from the web. It will even erase his Wikipedia page. How sweet is that!

  • If Lucasarts Made a Lost Game

Posted by Mike Yawney on May 29th, 2010 1 comment

Remember the old Lucasarts games? Maniac Mansion, Day of the Tentacle. As far fetched as they were (use the sponge to soak up the developer fluid which is spilled down the grate behind the bushes at the front of the house) they were a blast to play. And if you really think about it…Lost could easily be turned into one of those games. The old SCUMM menu system would actually work quite well for a Lucasarts Lost themed game.

Losties have already created some screen shots for what a Lucasarts Lost game would look like. Take a look at them below. Oh, and also check out the 8-bit version of Lost!

  • Full Control Of The No-Touch Faucet

Posted by DM Le Bray on May 29th, 2010 No comments

No, this is not the same as a motion-activated water faucet. Designer Jasper Dekker has created a faucet that responds to different gestures to give the user hot or cold water, differing flow volumes, and the choice of a shower spray or a single stream.

Each gesture corresponds to what the user wants. For example, a wave of the hand up the left side of the faucet is a “pull” of hot water out of the faucet. The faster you make the motion, the more water you’re going to get. Move your hand back in the opposite direction and it’s like you’re pushing the water back to shut off the flow.

    Video after the break.
