• R4 Catridges Now Illegal In UK

    The R4 cartridge, a device that allows Nintendo DS users to play pirate games on their handheld, is now illegal in the UK. The High Court in London ruled against Playables Limited, which means the device cannot be imported, marketed, or sold in Britain.

    Nintendo is obviously breathing a sigh of relief. They blamed a 50% drop in software on piracy. In June, Japan’s Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association found that illegal downloads cost publishers 86 billion Yen.

  • Blue Light Special On Android Tablets In Aisle 7

    If you haven’t been entranced by the iPad and you’re holding out for an Android tablet, you may want to make tracks to Kmart. A flyer appeared in mailboxes this week touting Augen’s 7″ touch screen Android tablet at the low price of $150. However, Kmart has problems getting the tablet in and is handing out rainchecks that will honour the sale price.

    So why get all excited about this? The features sound promising given the size and price.

  • The Virtual Raising Of The Titanic

    A private company is about to undertake a high-tech trip to the ocean floor off Newfoundland to make a 3D map of the wreak of the Titanic. RMS Titanic Inc, which has exclusive salvage rights to the Titanic, has hired a “dream team” of scientists to conduct the 20-day expedition with the ultimate goal of making the results available to the public.

    Using advanced imaging and sonar technology, the team will spend its time visually detailing the two-by-three mile wreak site. Kinda sounds like the beginning of a Michael Crichton novel, doesn’t it?

    The new option allows former users to skip past the 14 deactivation period. A simple check in a box will “permanently delete” all your information, pictures and data.

  • Nintendo 3DS May Cost Lots But Will Still Sell Lots

    The Nintendo 3DS was a hit at E3 in June. The 3D effect offered by the new handheld was amazingly crisp and vibrant and might make 3D a viable medium for games. Given that, industry analyst Michael Pachter believes Nintendo can basically charge a fortune for it.

    According to Pachter, the 3DS is “revolutionary” enough to justify a $250 pricetag and if the price was beyond $250 ($50 more than the DSi), they could still sell millions of them.
