Epic Citadel Brings A Sneak Peek At Epic’s Project Sword
Posted by Natalie Sit on September 1st, 2010 No commentsNestled amongst the shiny new iPods and ridiculously small Apple TVs was Epic’s Project Sword. Gamers sneaking a peek at Apple’s live stream may have perked up when they saw a medieval RPG, complete with swords, for iOS devices.
Chair Entertainment, an Epic studio known for Undertow (meh) and Shadow Complex (awesome), is making Project Sword. They promise that “Project Sword will bring unrivaled visual fidelity and a highly accessible gameplay experience to the iOS platform.”
Indeed. They showed a castle and its surrounding environs that was highly detailed for an iPhone game. They also demoed a head-to-head battle between a hulking tank and a nimble swordsman.
It’s set to release during the holiday season, but there was no hint at cost or even a better sense of the multiplayer RPG gameplay that’s promised. And the game title sounds pretty temporary temporary. However, you can download Epic Citadel from the App Store and get a sneak peak at the visuals in Project Sword.

PS3 Homebrew Hits the Web
Posted by Mike Yawney on September 1st, 2010 No comments
You knew it was only a matter of time. On the same day the infamous PSJailbreak USB key is set to ship to online retailers, a new cheaper version of the Playstation 3 hack has surfaced online.PSGroove is an open source implementation of the PS Jailbreak exploit. The software, which can be downloaded for free online, must be installed to a AT90USBkey ($30) or a Teensy++ USB development board ($25). This will enable the backup manager on any PS3 whether it’s the old fat model or the newer PS3 slim.

Brand New Xbox 360 Controller
Posted by Mike Yawney on August 31st, 2010 No commentsMicrosoft has just announced a brand new controller for the Xbox 360. At first glance it looks roughly the same as previous versions, but take a close look at the A, B, X, Y buttons. The red, green, yellow and blue colours are gone, replaced with grey monochrome. The analog sticks are also now more concave, another small upgrade. But the biggest improvement has to be the D-Pad.
Microsoft claims many Xbox 360 users complained the D-Pad was awkward to use. So the engineers in Redmond developed a new one. A twist of the D pad will make the plus pop up giving the disc some dimension. Take a look at the picture below.

Review: Metroid Other M
Posted by Mike Yawney on August 30th, 2010 No commentsNintendo fans have been frothing at the mouth ever since Nintendo announced at this year’s E3 that a new Metroid would hit store shelves in the fall. Well fanboys and fangirls, the time has come. After months of anticipation, Samus Aran has returned to the console–this time bringing with her a very different game. Yes it’s Metroid; yes it has many familiar characters; and yes it features our favourite heroine. But, mark our words, this is not the Metroid of yesteryear.

Sony Temporarily Blocks Sale of PS3 Modchip
Posted by Mike Yawney on August 27th, 2010 No commentsSony Computer Entertainment Australia has won a small albeit temporary victory against console hackers. The company has been granted a temporary injunction by the nation’s Federal Court to block the importation and sale of the new PS3 modchips known as the PSJailbreak.
Last week the USB device was unveiled to the world. The manufacturer claims the PSJailbreak allows you to backup games right to the PS3′s hard drive then play them without a disc. Although very few modchips have made their way into the hands of gamers, there has already been some discussion that Sony is able to detect the device and can ban consoles that have used the PSJailbreak.

The Big Leak: Halo Reach Lands On Filesharing Queues
Posted by Sean Taylor on August 23rd, 2010 No commentsWe posted last weekend that hackers have found a way to grab the newest installment of the Halo franchise. Now, using the exploit intended to allow legitimate reviewers to download the full game, some gamerz have bypassed Microsoft’s security protocols and even posted the game to filesharing sites such as Pirate Bay and others around the Net.

Review: Mafia II
Posted by Mike Yawney on August 23rd, 2010 No commentsHollywood has always glamorized the gangster lifestyle. Hot women, fast cars, and dirty money. Throw in some gratuitous violence and the storylines are virtually endless. The model would make for a great videogame don’t you think? 2K Czech is releasing the follow-up to its 2002 hit Mafia. All the signature (and cliche) trademarks are here. The game is filled with loose women, paid hits, family favours, and zoot suits. Yet Mafia II seems to lack something…

Sony Able To Ban Hacked Consoles?
Posted by Mike Yawney on August 23rd, 2010 No comments
Hackers around the globe were cheering after finally hearing word of a PlayStation 3 hack allowing users to run unsigned code. Now less than a week after the announcement, word on the web this morning is Sony can detect the hack resulting in a console ban.The PSjailbreak is a USB key which allows users to backup games right onto their PS3 hard drive. That means original discs aren’t needed to play the games. The only catch is the backup process could be logged and recorded by Sony when logged into PSN when you’re online. At this point that basically means no playing online.

Dreamcast Not Dead Yet?
Posted by Mike Yawney on August 23rd, 2010 No commentsGet ready to dust off that Dreamcast, there may still be some life in it yet! Redspotgames, which released a handful of games on the “dead” console last year, claims it will continue to publish games for the Dreamcast into 2011.
The company admits it only sells a couple thousand copies of each Dreamcast game it releases, as a result it has begun to develop titles for WiiWare and Xbox Live Arcade.
Would you buy a game for the Dreamcast or have you already said goodbye to Sega’s console swan song?
