• iPhone Pilot Pure Joy

Like slow-motion gun fights, a warm-blooded man just can’t ignore the instinct of the one-handed fighter plane. You know: where you make swooping noises with your voice as you wave your hand to climb and dive, shoot and bomb. Eventually, all hand planes conclude with a spectacular explosion complete with the vocal accompaniment akin to a guttural “kaboom”!

I had to take a moment to stop typing just so I could do a few of my own in my office.

In what may be one of the most useless yet brilliant apps yet, Dotank Studios has developed “Pilot” for your iPhone or iPod Touch to simulate the pure joy of the one-handed fighter plane on your mobile device. Yes, it’s essentially “pimp my hand plane”. (Video after the break)

Reacting to the motion sensors of the iPhone, this 99 cent app produces corresponding sounds as you climb, bank, and dive. With just a press of a button, you’re firing either machine guns or dropping bombs with sounds that are better than those ones you use to make on your own (except for the earth shattering kaboom of an epic crash, but we can’t have everything).

    But wait, there’s more.

The app lets you choose your plane, be it a generic WWII British, Japanese, American or German fighter, and gives you a different skin for each. And, just as you think you’ve done enough, you can get added “support” from Dotank and download a corresponding set of paper wings to paste (NO GLUE) to your iPhone to make it a truly fearsome fighting machine.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a bombing run to do in the office down the hall.
