Is Sony about to cut the price of its PS3?

Let the speculation begin! Australian trade magazine Smarthouse reports that it’s received word regarding a “global announcement” from Sony on Tuesday, possibly concerning the PS3.

Could it be a price drop? hard to say. Each Sony Computer Entertainment region sets its own price independently, so it’s doubtful. In fact a simultaneous global price drop has never happened before. Analysts are tipping either a massive price drop for the PS3 or the launch of a brand new browser and online content. There are also rumours swirling the price of the PS2 will be dropped to $99. *insert sound of one hand clapping here*
