People are downloading apps like they’re going out of style! And here’s the proof. Asymco has tracked the number of apps downloaded via iTunes and compared them to the number of songs downloaded since the service launched. The results? Apps will match the number of songs downloaded by the end of the year.

In five years, almost twelve billion songs have been downloaded. In the past two years we’ve seen more than 6 billion apps downloaded. Asymco says iOS users are currently downloading 17.6 million apps compared to roughly 7.5 million songs per day, on average. By doing a bit of math Asymco has discovered both apps and songs will hit 13 billion downloads by the end of December. Wowza!
