• BioWare Celebrates Turning 15 With Free Stuff For Their American Friends

When an unexplained countdown clock on BioWare’s website hit 00:00 two things happened:

    1. Their servers shut down for an hour (the curiosity of many, many fans will do that, you know)
    2. The game developer launched BioWare Bazaar to give away some very awesome stuff over the next two weeks to celebrate of the company’s 15th anniversary

Starting now, followers of @Biofeed on Twitter can participate in simple (so far) contests and questions to earn tokens that can be used in auctions starting on April 6. And it’s the auction items that have folks all a-buzz with goodies that range from copies of games to artwork to painted PCs.

But here are the catches: you have to join the BioWare social network and live in an American state to participate. Well, not all American states–Florida and New York are out. And, oh yeah, Canada wasn’t even invited.

That sound you hear is the cold rumble of discontent originating from the frozen north spurned by its favourite son.

I’m sure there’s some legal reason, etc, etc why EA and BioWare aren’t extending the fun to their non-American fans, but the small print still stings.

I too would love the opportunity to “bid” on a Mass Effect 2 Collectors’ Edition Artwork Branded Computer. Heck, I was even ready to join the BioWare social network just so I could participate. But, now I will do neither, and I must admit to feeling a little dejected for being effectively left off the BioWare birthday party invite list.

But I won’t let my sore feelings get in the way of telling my American cousins to have themselves a good time celebrating with the makers of Dragon Age and Mass Effect. I hope they eat lots of cake and think of the rest of us when they bid on a BioWare Toque Beanie.
