app_worldIs it a cruel Aprils Fool’s joke? No, it appears to be true. Research in Motion is getting ready to launch its online store on April 1st. BlackBerry App World will be full of software programs created by outside developers that Crackberry users can download to their phone.

It will be interesting to see just how successful BlackBerry App World does. RIM has an established pool of users, many are wealthy business people. RIM has also announced it will take only a 20% cut of sales from Apps, developers will get the rest. Not a bad move since Apple takes a bigger bite, asking for a 30% cut.

On an interesting note, Nokia, Microsoft, and Palm all plan to follow Apple and RIM with virtual software stores of their own this year.

Any BlackBerry users out there excited about the ability to download Apps?
