If you ever wanted proof HD is slowly taking over, you just have to take a look at movie sales over the American Thanksgiving weekend. According to Home Media Research, Blu-ray sales trumped DVD, doubling its revenue in the US for that period, climbing 224.04 percent to reach $69.06 million. DVD sales actually declined during the period, dropping 7.89 percent to a still high $491.1 million.

Why such a rapid growth? Besides the superior picture quality, analysts say the discs have dropped in price as have players. The price drop on the PlayStation 3 has also made it easier for people to justify converting to the HD format.
