• Google To Bring People The Internet Via High-Speed Fiber

It’s frightening and great how much of my online life is conducted through Google. Which also makes this next bit of news alternatingly awesome and terrifying. Google is planning to bring the world wide web to people at 1 gigabit per second–that’s 100s of times faster then the average American’s current connection.

This isn’t happening right away. Google is looking for the right American community to test out its new high-speed fiber network.

The video posted above explains the project and also invites government officials and normal citizens to nominate their city or town.

If you’re worried about Google prioritizing its content over others, it promises to be an open network, even allowing other Internet service providers to use their tubes. Google also wants to “experiment with new ways to help make Internet access better and faster for everyone.”

Can you imagine the speed at which we could watch cat-in-box videos? Thanks Google.
