iPhone SMS Vulnerability To Be Revealed Today
Posted by Mike Yawney on July 30th, 2009 No comments
Earlier this month security expert Charlie Miller announced there was an SMS based security hole which could allow hackers to execute code at will. Since the announcement Apple has yet to make a move to try and fix the problem. Well that could very well change today.Miller is expected to announce the hack later today at Black Hat, a cyber security conference in Las Vegas. The exploit can be used to send a series of SMS bursts that can give a hacker complete power over any of the smart phone’s functions. We’re talking dialing, Web surfing, turning on the camera and microphone and send more text messages.
Miller went on to say if you receive a text with a single “square” character, it may be a sign you’ve just been hacked. According to Miller, the only way to protect yourself…turn off your iPhone!
Apple seems to be playing smug as it has yet to address Miller’s concerns and is not responding to media requests for comment. Let’s see what the day brings.
