It had The 5th Element all over it! Michael Robert Dacre envisioned cities around the world with flying taxis whisking commuters to and from work. In fact he was in the process of making that dream a reality when he crashed his Jetpod prototype killing him instantly.

According to at least one witness, the Jetpod shot up about 200 meters into the sky before veering to the left and crashing into flames after taking off from a runway in Taiping. Police say Dacre suffered severe burns and injuries and died at the scene.

Dacre was hoping to have the Jetpod flying around cities by 2010. Unfortunately no one knows the future of the device.

I’ve got to give props to the guy for having Tony Stark-like ambition, but do we seriously need flying cars in a world where 40,000 people die in the U.S. from regular cars every year?
