The Korea Communications Commission (KCC) announced it will soon launch 3D broadcasts in Full HD quality. At least two providers are showing interest in bringing a trial service to Korean viewers within a couple of weeks.

CJ HelloVision (Korean Cable TV) says it will launch it’s service with video-on-demand to about 300 households. Customers will need special set top boxes to see the 3D images. If all goes well, it will upgrade programming to real time broadcasts in the new year.

Meanwhile TU Media (mobile TV operator) says it plans on releasing a 3D capable handset that will support 3D video. It will also launch a satellite channel which will initially broadcast an hour of 3D programming a day to gauge demand for such a service.
