• Missile Command Turns 30, Appears In Your Browser

I’m a little young to have experienced Atari’s Missile Command in its arcade heyday. But Atari has given us whippersnappers the opportunity to play it in our favourite browser. Now there’s no need to beg your mom for endless rounds of quarters to feed the demon machine.

Atari and OMGPOP have updated the game to celebrate its 30th birthday. Does that make anyone feel old?

Instead of a trackball, you click with a mouse to guide the missile. And instead of controlling all six turrets, you control only one. The other five are controlled by online opponents. You compete with the other players to destroy the most missiles to collect the most money to upgrade your turret to survive the increasingly more difficult levels.

So at the rate retro games are appearing on new platforms, I should be able to play Mass Effect on my ocular implant 20 years from now. Sounds sweet to me.
