New "Instant" pizza machine pisses off Italian chefs

Now you know some kid isn't spitting in your pizza

Nope, it doesn’t come from Japan. This new vending machine was invented by someone right in Italy!

The “Let’s Pizza” machine, makes dough, stretches it, adds toppings and bakes it in an infrared oven for you…in 3 minutes flat! There are even windows on the side so you can watch your creation being made. The inventor, Claudio Torghele says he came up with the idea while he was in a food court in California.

“At food courts I saw a trend toward vending machines,” he said. “In fast food, I saw pizza everywhere.”

And so the “Let’s Pizza” was born. But the device is not being well received by everyone. Pino Morelli, head of the Association of Italian Pizzerias isn’t impressed.

“Something that comes out of an automatic machine has nothing to do with Italian pizza. It might be alright for McDonalds and other fast-food chains or for foreign markets like the US, China and India but anyone wanting to eat a real pizza has to go to a traditional pizzeria”.

Oh Burn! Are the Pizzerias scared of a little bot competition?

The new “Instant” pizza machines are due to come on the market in Italy this summer. Wonder if they’ll be popping up here anytime soon…
