Whenever a popular movie or television clip is posted from Hulu, inevitably Canadians and other non-Americans complain that the clip cannot be seen outside of the US. But soon, Canadians may get a Hulu of their own courtesy of Rogers.

Rogers, a communications group with operations in wireless, television, and cable, may be bringing a Hulu type service to Canada. Users would have to subscribe to Rogers’ cable plans but it would allow them stream shows online. Currently, many Canadians view shows online on broadcasts network’s websites or download them as torrents.

An online streaming portal would also increase the Canadian content available–a concern of the Canadian government and Canadian media regulatory body.

The benefit for Rogers is that it would allow them to hold onto cable subscribers during a tough economic time. Many people have cancelled their cable in order to save money.
