Hackers around the globe were cheering after finally hearing word of a PlayStation 3 hack allowing users to run unsigned code. Now less than a week after the announcement, word on the web this morning is Sony can detect the hack resulting in a console ban.

The PSjailbreak is a USB key which allows users to backup games right onto their PS3 hard drive. That means original discs aren’t needed to play the games. The only catch is the backup process could be logged and recorded by Sony when logged into PSN when you’re online. At this point that basically means no playing online.

Microsoft has long been banning consoles and gamertags known to play backups online. Sony has also banned consoles in the past but not to the extent Microsoft has.

The the game of cat and mouse continues.
