A while back Sony mentioned it was working on a program where PSP owners who upgraded to a PSP Go would receive digital copies of all the games they purchased, so they could play their old titles on the newer model. Turns out that plan has been scrapped. A SCEA spokesperson has gone on record saying “We were evaluating a UMD conversion program, but due to legal and technical reasons we will not be offering the program at this time.”

To make matters worse, Sony’s program to give PSP Go buyers 3 free games over in Europe, will not be coming to North America. Sony says it has a “dual platform” strategy on this side of the pond.

Is Sony making a big mistake? Time will tell. PSP Go launches October 1st.
