• Thank Japan for the Potato Chip Gadget

Some days, no caption seems appropriate.

After all this talk of iPads, consoles, and sci-fi, I think it’s about time to dial down the tech a touch. And a potato-chip-eating-hand gadget is just the way to do that.Yes, once again, we’re all saying one big “thank you” to Japan.

Essentially a soft-to-touch chip-friendly version of the extended grip arm your grandfather has for reaching for the remote control, this gadget lets you reach into a bag of chips and eat away without getting your fingers all greasy and cheesy. You may not have thought you needed that, but you do now, right?

Made by Japanese toy company Takara Tomy, Potechi No Te (Potato Chip Hand), is designed for computer users or gamers that want to eat chips without having to wipe their hands with every munch. Just put the “hand” in the bag or bowl, push the button, and the “fingers” gently grips a chip allowing you to bring it to your mouth without breaking (no matter how hard you press the button). Plus, the hand is designed so that when you put it down the fingers won’t touch the table, which, knowing my computer desk, is likely disgusting.

It’s not quite having cheezies magically float into my mouth as I play Halo 3, but it’s a good (if not ridiculous) step forward.

This gadget is available on Amazon Japan for $8.
