• The New Apple TV Will Offer Netflix

There’s no denying Apple’s original version of Apple TV was somewhat of a flop. Even Apple mocked itself by calling it a hobby during today’s media event. The company hopes to change that with the release of a new model.

The new Apple TV is much smaller than the original design. In fact it’s a quarter of the size. This version doesn’t have a hard drive, everything will be streamed to the device. It’s also completely HD (720p), here will be no standard definition content.

In terms of ports, the device has only three. There is a power port on the rear of the unit along with an HDMI port and ethernet port. WiFi is also available so you may not have to use that WiFi port after all. Unfortunately you will not be controlling the device from your iPhone or iPad as was rumoured. Apple TV has it’s own remote.

Now here’s where the news gets exciting. Apple has indeed teamed up with Netflix and will offer the streaming movie service along with YouTube and Flickr. TV shows ($0.99) will be available for rent commercial free, as will Hollywood movies ($4.99) of course both in HD.

If you’re curious about trying out the new Apple TV you won’t have to wait long. The new model hits stores in 4 weeks.
