The REAL cost of the Palm Pre

iSupply is at it again. The company has looked into how much it will cost to build Palm’s much touted Pre. Turns out each unit produced will set the company back roughly $138.

Since the Pre hasn’t been released yet, it’s pretty hard to break down the details on actual parts. In fact only two parts (Texas Instruments OMAP chip,  and Qualcomm’s wireless chip) have been identified. That being said iSuppli has a pretty good track record (having done cost breakdowns a few times before).

The Pre could be make or break Palm. The struggling PDA company has had a rough go of things as of late. It will be interesting to see if the Palm Pre lives up to the hype. The Pre is expected to retail for $299 USD.
