• The See-Through Dress Of The Future

Although it may be more party gag than high-fashion, a team from Taiwan’s Shih-Chien University has produced an “invisible” dress that lets you look through to the other side of the wearer.

This tech-enhanced garment incorporates a camera at the back of the dress while the front includes a textile-based display. Imagine the Harry Potter invisibility cloak and you have a good idea what it should look like.

The team from Shih-Chien won a the Gold Thread Award in the recent international AiQ Smart Clothing Design Contest which has attracted more than 30 teams.

Naturally, such clothing isn’t remotely commercially available, but it’s coming soon enough. With existing paper-thin displays and super-flexible conductive thread using nanotechnology, our invisible wardrobe is just around the corner.

Of course, being able to make an invisible dress doesn’t mean we should have one. Am I the only one who doesn’t want to be “wearing” the fat guy behind me? The more I think of it, the more I suspect such technology has better spy and military applications anyway.
