There are some great British imports. We have The Beatles, Jaffa cakes, and Jamie Oliver. Perhaps joining that illustrious group is the trueCall, a UK gadget that promises to stop all your spam calls.

Let’s say Joe the Annoying Telemarketer calls you during dinner. Since his number is unknown by the trueCall, the device will ask him his name. Then your phone will ring and you can determine if you want Joe to take up anymore of your time. If you press #, trueCall does two things: send Joe a message saying you didn’t want to talk to him and remembers his number so you don’t receive any further calls from him.

The developers claim that as time goes on the trueCall will learn which numbers it should let through and which ones it should ban. So you can run the trueCall as is or you can go online and fiddle with its features.

You can use the trueCall as is right out of the box. It also functions as an answering machine so this could be a solution for protecting elderly folks from scammers and telemarketers.

Or you can go on the Internet and through the trueCall site configure your machine. You can record your own greetings and input numbers from friends instead of waiting for them to call.

trueCall is attending CES in the hopes of finding a US distributor. It current retails in the UK for £100 so the US price may be around $140. Sadly other North American residents–Canada and Mexico–you’re out of luck for now.
