• Console Suitcase For “Portable” Gaming

I’ll be the first to admit things can get missed in the massive showcase of E3. Take, for example, Project GAEMS (Gaming And Entertainment Mobile Systems) tucked away in cubical-sized booth number 2860. Behold! The world’s “first truly functional, all inclusive mobile gaming case for consoles”!

Unlike the N64 mods we’ve seen, this suitcase of power simply straps in your Xbox (the prototype at E3 is just for the larger Xbox 360, but GAEMS says it’ll have a universal model for all consoles) connecting it to a built-in screen and speakers. Could this be the console LAN gamer’s dream rig?

This isn’t exactly the type of setup you’d want carry around for Xbox gaming on the train or bus, but it is a slick case for those who want to have their console handy at the cabin or the friend’s dorm room or anywhere else where easy plug and play gaming is called for.

Moreover, I do see the value in local area network multi-console gaming. Rather than force you to set up multiple TVs when you get together with friends (been there, done that), just whip out the suitcase, connect the Xboxes and you’re good to go.

At an expected $250 retail, the rig ain’t that cheap, but you are paying for a monitor and what appears to be a joint power supply setup. Unfortunately, there’s no nook for your controllers to hide, but GAEMS says they’ll bundle in a “sack” for those peripherals. If you’ve been lugging around your console and coordinating multiple TVs too much lately, this is for you.

GAEMS expects to have the case available for sale in late 2010.
