Use Skype on your iPhone in Canada
A collective moan swept across the Great White North as Canadian iPhone users quickly discovered Skype was not being released for the iPhone in Canada. Well wipe those tears away because you friends at The Review Crew did a bit of digging only to find out it’s quite easy to get Skype working on your iPhone, even if you live north of the border!
The problem is the Skype App is not available on the Canadian App store (due to a Patent issue related to Skype). To get Skype you need to connect to the U.S. App store. How do you do that? Simply create an American iTunes account. This can be done in one of two ways. You can simply add a secondary American address to your credit card (just call and add a U.S address on your card – make sure it’s someone you know) or just go out and buy a prepaid MasterCard from your local drug store. Once you have the card at home, call in and use an American address to activate the card. Yup, that easy. Now go to iTunes and create a new account with your U.S. address….the pearly gates of the American Apps store will be open. Download Skype at your own free will.
All of the features work just as they do in the U.S. or any other country. Just keep in mind calls can only be placed via Wi-Fi and not the 3G network.
Of course we’re not condoning this as it probably violates “Terms of Service”. Just putting it out there that it is possible.
