• A Cheap And Recyclable Wallpaper… Of Light

In the rush to build a better light bulb, scientists in the US and Sweden think they may have discovered the new lamp of the future. But in this future, the bulb will be replaced with an adjustable wall of light.

The futuristic wallpaper light source is made of organic light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs), which, in turn, are made possible by the latest super material, graphene. These transparent electrodes are are actually quite cheap to produce and (huzzah!) easily recyclable. So, it looks like indoor lighting might be very different in the not so distant future.

LECs are positioned to be the cheaper and more environmentally friendly alternative to OLEDs (the ultra-thin and electricity-saving organic light diodes). And with less-expensive comes a much larger market for their application.

Like with changing music formats, it seems that the future will have us buying new and better lightbulbs every ten years.
